The Best of Both Worlds: A Career Fused with Science and Beauty
From an early age, Leslie English, board-certified FNP-C and owner of Pink Paradise Wellness and Day Spa in Shelby, N.C. was driven by a deep passion for blending the worlds of science and beauty. “At 14, I knew I wanted to enter the field of medicine and make people beautiful,” she recalls. Her early days as the neighborhood makeup artist laid the groundwork for her future career. “Medicine lets me use all my science while aesthetics lets me have an artistic eye. The best of both merged into one.” This fusion of passions led her to open her thriving practice, where she continually strives for excellence in patient care and aesthetic enhancement.
Leslie’s Pink Paradise Wellness and Day Spa offers comprehensive services for diverse patient needs. “We offer a plethora of services,” she explains. These include hormone management, weight loss programs, IV therapy, various toxins and fillers, and an array of laser treatments tailored for all ethnicities. Notably, CO2 and RF lasers are among the most popular. The clinic also provides innovative treatments like exosome therapy, chemical peels, hair loss restoration, PDO threads, and many more aesthetic and massage services. “Our most popular treatments are toxins (we carry all five brands), fillers, RF microneedling, and PDO Max® threads,” she adds. These services not only enhance beauty but also promote overall wellness and self-confidence.
Trailblazing in aesthetic medicine has not been without its challenges. “Getting a small community to understand and release stigmas around the services you offer and to help empower others has been my main mission,” Leslie shares. Introducing new services, such as PDO threads, Leslie is often met with skepticism and misinformation and requires thorough patient education and exceptional consultation skills. “Our job is to do the best consult and plan and to show the world one face at a time how we can enhance a face or body while remaining the beautiful human he or she is.” Overcoming these challenges has been a significant part of Leslie’s journey in aesthetic medicine.
Resilience has been the cornerstone of Leslie’s business growth. “I take rejection and turn it into ‘not now.’ Never take ‘no’ personally and move forward with the set goals and mission,” she emphasizes. Her background in healthcare administration has also played a crucial role in her success, providing her with the necessary skills to navigate the business side of her practice effectively.
Leslie advises thorough research and understanding the market demographics for those contemplating opening a medical aesthetic practice. “See if the area is already saturated and what clients there are [already doing],” she suggests. She also highlights the importance of dedication and investment. “It is expensive and not a part-time job. To do it well, you must invest and go at it daily.” Finding a seasoned owner willing to advise or coach can be invaluable, even if it comes at a cost. “It may not be free, but it will be worth it.”
Incorporating PDO threads into her practice has been a game-changer. After extensive research and consultation with fellow med spa owners, Leslie introduced this non-surgical option for patients seeking preventative or alternative treatments to facelifts. “I’ve inserted hundreds of threads, and we have found a true partner with PDO Max, as they provide expert training and outstanding customer support!”
The most memorable application of PDO threads in her practice was on her office manager, Aymie. “She is beautiful and has beautiful skin but worries about her eye area. To see the lift and how it changed how she felt about herself while looking in the mirror made me know I am doing something amazing for my patients.”
Leslie’s journey in aesthetic medicine is a testament to the power of passion, resilience, and dedication. Her ability to merge the scientific with the artistic has not only fulfilled her childhood dreams but also transformed the lives of her patients. She remains at the forefront of her field through continuous learning and innovation, providing exceptional care and beautiful results.
